Rationale
1.1 To provide systematic and standardized BB training guidelines to achieve the BB Object
1.2 To standardize the training curriculum and delivery of training
1.3 To optimize the use of various resources for effective training.

Scope
This policy covers the following training programs organized by the Boys' Brigade in Malaysia:
a) Officer Development Programme (ODP) - Basic and Advanced
b) NCO Development Programme (NDP) - Basic and Advanced
c) Captains' Conference
d) Specialised Training Course (STC) - refer no. 5.3

Objective
3.1 To equip Chaplains, Captains, Lieutenants, Warrant Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) and members with the knowledge, skills and attitude to achieve the BB Object
3.2 To develop training resources in terms of training manuals and a pool of instructors for BB training
3.3 To review and continuously improve BB training in Malaysia

Philosophy
Training is the responsibility of every BB member and every member is committed to all BB training provided for at State or Brigade level

Training Structure
5.1 Officer Development Programme
a) Basic Officers Training Course (BOTC)
b) Advanced Officers Training Course (AOTC)
c) Captains' Conference

5.2 Non-Commissioned Officers Development Programme
a) Basic NCO Course (BNTC)
b) Advanced NCO Course (ANTC)

5.3 Specialized Courses like:
a) Train The Trainer Course
b) Junior Section Officer Course
c) Senior Section Officer Course
d) Drill Instructor Course
*The above are some of the common courses conducted. It is non exhaustive and other courses can be added

Brigade Training Committee
6.1 The role of this committee is to establish policies and guidelines for training and shall consists of the Brigade Secretary and representatives from BB and non BB appointed with the approval of the Brigade Training Chairman. The Brigade President and Brigade Vice-Presidents are the ex-officio of this committee.

6.2 The Committee shall meet at least once a year to chart the annual training calendar.

Organization of Training
7.1 Training can be conducted at State or Brigade Level.
7.2 The responsibility for organizing training at the Brigade (National) Level is the Brigade Training Committee.
7.3 The State Council shall be responsible to organize the following courses at State level . Approval shall be obtained from the Brigade Training Chairman prior to commencement of the course.

a) Basic Officers Training Course (BOTC)
b) Advanced Officers Training Course (AOTC)
c) Captains' Conference
d) Advanced NCOs Training Course (ANTC)
e) All specialized courses mentioned on no. 5.3 above. (STC)

7.4 A Company shall be responsible to organize the Basic NCOs Training Course (BNTC). Approval shall be obtained from the Brigade Training Chairman prior to commencement of the course.

Training Budget
8.1 An Annual Brigade Training Grant shall be set aside to help defray training costs.
8.2 At the State level and Company level, training courses shall be fully financed locally

Training Application, Records & Certification
9.1 Training Nomination (Application) Forms, Attendance list and Evaluation Records must be submitted to the Training Committee before Certificates can be issued from the Brigade Headquarters. (please refer to NCOs Training Manual)

Compulsory Training
10.1 Prior to promotion to the rank of Lieutenant, Warrant Officer must attend a compulsory Basic Officers Training course.
10.2 Existing Honorary Captains and Captains who have completed are required to attend the Captains' Conference at least within three (3) years after their appointment.
10.3 All Lieutenants who have completed the Advanced Officers Training are encouraged to attend the Captains' Conference.
