Classification of a BB Company
1.1 A BB Company can be classified into the following categories :

a) Church Based BB Company
A Church Based BB Company is a company that uses the church compound as the official meeting place by its members.

b) School Based BB Company
A School Based BB Company is a company that uses the school compound as the official meeting place by its members.

Definition of a School Based BB Company
2.1 BB Company operating in schools can be defined as follows :

a) A BB Company which has been operating in church compound/Christian organisation compound decided to set up another operating unit in a school compound (hence known as school based company). Thus, the BB Company concern which has a unit in the church/Christian organisation and a separate unit in the school would be required to reorganise the 2 Units as "Platoons" and alphabetical designations be given, such as 32nd Penang Platoon A(S), 32nd Penang Platoon B(S), 32nd Penang Platoon A(P), 32nd Penang Platoon B(P) etc.
(S) - Secondary (P) - Primary

b) A BB Company which is fully operating in school compound.

c) A BB Company using the School BB Club as a tool to recruit students to join a company but meets in a church compound.

2.2 BB Membership Status & Rules are as follows *Applies to 1.1 A), 1.1 B) & 1.1 C) :

a) A person who has enrolled officially for the first time (year) by completing the Recruitment Form.

b) A person who has enrolled officially for the second time (year) by completing the Company Registration Form.

c) A member intending to transfer to another Company must first obtained permission from his / her Captain in writing. Upon approval, the Captain will issue an official approval letter of notice of transfer. He shall be able to retain his present rank and awards gained from the previous Company. The Captain of the receiving Company shall, upon the letter of notice of transfer, accept the said member and shall accord the member full rights and privileges accorded to a member of like rank and status.

d) A member who has resigned and subsequently re-join the same Company or another Company may lose his / her seniority and may not be allowed to retain the rank and awards gained previously. He / She is to be considered as a new recruit.

e) He/She is accorded to all the privileges given by the BB Company and the Brigade (National) Body.

f) He/She must pay the Brigade Annual Membership Fee of RM12.00 per annum.

g) A person who is a member of another Company studying in a school which has a School Based Company/Platoon/BB Club belonging to another Company will be given the following liberty :

  • To remain with his/her present/original Company while studying in the school which has a BB unit belonging to another Company. He/She should be allowed to gain merit points from the school Extra Curricular Activities (subject to the approval of the School) through his/her involvement with the present/original Company. OR
  • To officially transfer his/her membership from his/her present/original Company to the Company which operates in his/her school.

Rules Governing BB Company Operating in School
3.1 School Based Company or a BB Platoon
Companies wishing to form a platoon/s in school or school based companies may do so subject to the following rules and regulations.

a) All platoon/s or school based companies are bound under the Company's Regulation and are under the responsibility of the Company Captain.

b) Companies having Platoons are required to keep a separate register of their members clearly differentiating and demarcating the individual Platoons.

c) A BB Company must submit an official written application to the Brigade Secretary if the following is to be considered :

c1) To operate a BB platoon in the school.
c2) To form a BB Company based in the school compound.
*Only applies to one official written application per school.

d) A BB Company is not allow to encroach a school which already has a BB unit in operation by another BB Company.

e) A BB Company must be able to supply 2 Officers (at least one (1) Lieutenant who is the Officer-In-Charge and one (1) Warrant Officer per BB School Platoon or per School Based Company.

f) A BB Company wishing to operate more than the required maximum (3.3), must write officially to the Brigade Secretary for approval, and must meet the following conditions below :

  • No. 3.1 E)
  • That the school has no existing BB Unit.

    h) In the event when a BB Company wish to release its ownership, the following conditions apply :
  • That the Brigade Secretary must be informed.
  • The School unit status shall be as follows :
    - it will be given to another BB Company located nearest to the school.
    - if there is no taker, it shall be opened to other BB Companies in the locality subject to meeting condition No. 3.2 e).
    - if there are no taker still, the school shall cease all BB activities.

i) A BB Company upon application from the Brigade Secretary can apply to recruit / start a BB unit / platoon :

  • in a school originally designated for another BB Company is not taken up within one year.
3.2 A BB Club in School
Companies wishing to form a BB Club may do so subject to the following rules and regulations.

a) All BB Clubs are bound under the Company's Regulation and are under the responsibility of the Company Captain.

b) A person who joins a School BB Club must at least be a member of a BB Company that owns the club or a member from another BB Company. (Refer to No.2.2 F)

c) A BB Company must submit an official written application to the Brigade Secretary to form a BB Club in school : *Only applies to one official written application per school.

d) A BB Company is not allow to encroach a school which already has a BB Club in operation by another BB Company.

e) A BB Company must be able to supply 1 Officer (at least one (1) Lieutenant who is the Officer-In-Charge per BB Club.

f) A BB Company wishing to operate more than the required maximum number of BB Club (3.3), must write officially to the Brigade Secretary for approval, and must meet the following conditions below :

  • No. 3.2 E)
  • That the school has no existing BB Unit.


g) In the event when a BB Company wish to release its ownership, the following conditions apply :

  • That the Brigade Secretary must be informed.
  • The School unit status shall be as follows :
    - it will be given to another BB Company located nearest to the school.
    - if there is no taker, it shall be opened to other BB Companies in the locality subject to meeting condition No. 3.2 e).
    - if there are no taker still, the school shall cease all BB activities.
3.3 The maximum numbers of Unit to operate a School based or a Platoon or a BB Club at any one time shall be as follows :
  • 2 Primary schools School Based Company or Platoon or BB Club.
    AND
  • 2 Secondary schools School based Company or Platoon or BB Club.
    *A Company cannot have more than any 2 units of each sections.

3.4 A school which has been allocated or within the physical proximity of the said BB Company premise but has not initiated to form a platoon or BB Club in that school within a reasonable period of not less than one year, another BB Company can apply to the Brigade Secretary for permission to form a platoon or club in the said school provided conditions in clause 3.2 F) are complied with.

3.5 The Brigade Executive Council Committee is empower to intervene in the event where it sees fit when a BB Company unable to manage those schools it is currently operating by giving it to another BB Company to manage.

Officer in-charge
4.1 The Captain of the Company shall appoint an Officer-In-Charge to be responsible for each BB unit.

4.2 The term Officer-In-Charge refers to a member of the BB with the rank of Lieutenant and above. He/She holds the responsibility of BB Unit and reports to the Company Captain.

Instructor-In-Charge
5.1 The Term Instructor-In-Charge refers to a teacher to be the Instructor-In-Charge of a BB unit. (henceforth be referred to as the said "teacher")

5.2 The appointment and/or removal of a teacher/instructor-in-charge shall be done by the School Board or Headmaster/Principal in consultation with the Company Captain or by the Company Captain in consultation with the School Board or Headmaster/Principal, which ever is deemed necessary.

5.3 The said teacher is not an officer of the Company (unless he/she is a BB Officer) and should preferably of his/her Platoon or School Based Company.

5.4 The said teacher shall carry out all the policies, programs and instructions of the Company on behalf of his/her BB unit.

5.5 The said teacher may be co-opted by the Company Captain to sit in the meeting of the Officers' Council of the Company.

5.6 With the consent and sanction from the Company Captain the said teacher may form and preside over the Platoon's NCO or Leaders' Council or BB Club Management Committee which comprises of boys/girls of the said unit.

5.7 The Company Captain and/or the Officer-In-Charge shall guide and instruct the NCO/Leaders' Council/BB Club Management Committee meeting so that they are conducted according with the methods and system of BB.

5.8 A copy of all the minutes of the NCO/Leaders' Council/BB Club Management Committee shall be forwarded to the Company Captain and/or the Officer-In-Charge within 14 (fourteen) days after such meeting is held.

5.9 The main duty of teacher/instructor-in-charge would be to liase with the school board or headmaster/principal and ensure that good rapport between the school and Company are always maintained.
